PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT

Successful public involvement means not only information dissemination to the public, but information gathering during the process. A priority of this project is the fostering of two-way communication between the public (property owners, local communities, motorists, recreationists, and the general public) and the Idaho Transportation Department. The Department will be actively soliciting input related to transportation needs and environmental considerations during the course of the project.

The public involvement process will progress hand in hand with the design process. A Public Involvement Plan has been developed to identify key goals, objectives and methods for this process. This web site is just one method to keep the public informed and to solicit input.

The Public Involvement Plan was developed after completing a series of interviews with project stakeholders and community members this summer. The purpose of these interviews was to learn how to engage the community in the Thorncreek Road to Moscow Project and gain insights that would assist the team in developing a public involvement plan.

The public will have numerous opportunities to participate throughout the project including attending open houses, public workshops, breakfast meetings and/or submitting written comments.

In addition, ITD will keep in contact with the public and be available to answer questions in several ways including newsletters, postcards, local media, the information kiosk and presentations to community groups.
